The German photographer Dennis Schoenberg is to release the second instalment of Young Soul Rebels, his ongoing zine on youth culture.
It includes a series of portraits of a boxer named Toby in the east London boxing gym Repton Boys Club.
When speaking about the project, Schoenberg said, “Publishing my own zines gives me the creative freedom to fulfil my wishes and desires without having to listen to editors and advertisers that have other interests in mind. Independently published zines enable me to solely focus on the aesthetic and to not have to compromise. As most of my work is concerned with mood and identity this is very important to me.”
Born in Berlin, Dennis Schoenberg is renowned as a style photographer with a focus on music and youth culture. He rose to prominence during the 1990s after assisting photographers Rankin and Steven Klein, managing Wolfgang Tillmans’ studio and working for magazines such as i-D, Vogue, Hero and Acne Paper.
