Whilst a few Nigerian musicians have gained widespread international renown, the wealth and depth of the country's 1970s output is largely unknown.
Nigeria Soul Fever, a new compilation from Soul Jazz Records, seeks to remedy this lack. Over a three-LP/double-CD format, it gathers together numerous disco, funk and boogie tracks from the West African nation.
Although some of the artists featured artists have become known to crate-diggers outside of Africa - Joni Haastrup, Christy Essien and Tee Mac - the majority are only otherwise available on rare and expensive vinyl.
Nigeria Soul Fever is the second instalment of a series focusing on Nigerian music, following the 1960s-focused Nigeria Freedom Sounds!.
