From 10 to 16 October, Nigeria will play host to a week-long festival of concerts and talks exploring the legacy of Fela Kuti, the legendary musician who galvanised Afrobeat in the 1970s.
To tie in with the festival, the Electric Ballroom in Camden, north London will host a night of Felebration. On Friday 7 October, a diverse set of musicians associated with or influenced by Kuti will perform in a celebration of his life and music.
Dele Sosimi – keyboardist for seven years in Kuti's band Egypt 80, and now a touring bandleader in his own right – will headline, backed by his Afrobeat Orchestra.
Other acts include the Tanzanian singer Tiggs Da Author, who previously supported Fela's son Femi at Meltdown Festival, jazz saxophonist and composer Yolanda Brown, grime MC Afrikan Boy and neo-soul chanteuse Terri Walker. A set of very special guests will be revealed on the night.
