While the late 1980s are widely regarded as the golden years of house, it was the early 1990s that represented the music’s most creative period for aficionados, with Paul “Trouble” Anderson’s Saturday night show on Kiss FM the place to hear the deeper and more underground end of the genre.
House of Ages, a new LP on BBE has been compiled by Jeremy Newall. As well as occasionally sitting in for Anderson on Kiss, Newall also span alongside the DJ at the Loft, Anderson's Wednesday night session. Newall could also be found behind the counter at Catch-A-Groove in Soho, peddling new promo releases dropped off by passing US producers and DJs.
As you might expect, House of Ages sees Newall digging deep for unreleased and sought after mixes from that period. Highlights include Benji Candelario's unreleased mix of Susan Clark’s Deeper, the unreleased dub of UBQ Project’s We Can Make It, and Tony Humphries' instrumental mix of A Bitch Named Johanna’s *Freak It.
