Milan-based photographer Daniele Tamagni will be signing copies of his latest book Fashion Tribes at the Photographers’ Gallery in London on 27 January.
Tamagni’s Fashion Tribes: Global Street Style (featured in Jocks&Nerds issue 17), is the follow-up to his photo-essay Gentlemen of Bacongo. In this earlier work, published as a book in 2009, Tamagni mixed reportage and portraiture to document sapeurs, the flamboyant street-dandies of Brazzaville and Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In his new book, Tamagni expands on the theme by chronicling sartorially refined and, to varying degrees, politically aspirant subcultures in Myanmar, Cuba, Bolivia, Botswana, South Africa and Senegal.
For the launch of Fashion Tribes at the Photographers’ Gallery, copies of Sapeurs (the Japanese edition of Gentlemen of Bacongo) will also be available to purchase.
