The AJATT QRG version 1 Review

The Quick Reference Guide review

AJATT (All Japanese All the Time) is a great website. With  a lot of information.

Khatzumoto who runs the site has a knack for writing.

I felt like buying the QRG for a few reasons.

1. Donation to AJATT that I get something back for.

2. AJATT isn’t that straightforward due to the large amount of FREE information on the website.

3. I wanted to see the AJATT method broken down.

4. Its CHEAP (at the time of writing of this review).

The QRG is very simple. Its 46 pages. Has the humor that Khatzumoto is known for. It explains the method from start to finish. The book simplicity allows the reader to focus on the doing rather then procrastinating.

The biggest positive is that book is ‘The AJATT method’ is broken into steps. It made me realize that with my own learning I was focusing on sentences when I should have been focused on Kanji.

For those who can’t afford the book. Here is a free alternative.

The book states that some time has to be down actually studying the language, you can not just listen to music and hope to become fluent. (However listening to music in your target language is a good idea.)

The book also made me realize that I was wasting a good 6 hours a week (dead time) in the car. When I could have been listening to Japanese music or pod-casts. Turning dead time into learning time.

As a direct result of the book. I have changed my surroundings.

I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of AJATT and anyone who wishes to start learning a language.

I also credit AJATT with introducing me to SRS.

Anyway now its time to get back to studying.

Turning your environment Japanese

After reading the AJATT QRG and this.

I thought of a list of ways to help you change your environment into your target language.

1.FACEBOOK

Go to settings

Language.

and change the language, to your target language

That way instead of wasting your time on FACEBOOK you are actually studying.

2. IPOD

Change your ipod language stetting to your target language.

Go to Itunes and search your target language in pod-casts.

Search “learning the language type podcasts” or what ever your hobbies/ interests are search that in your target language.

Download and your set.

Also buy an adapter to play your ipod why you drive. So now you can learn why you drive. Instead of listening to the radio.

Here you go just some ideas.

For Japanese podcasts I recommend www.lingq.com.

I have not looked at the rest of the www.lingq.com website so I dont know about it.

Cheers

Joe Defranco’s Super Strength DVD review

Joe Defranco’s Super Strength DVD Review

By who: Joe Defranco

Where can I get it? Here

Running time: Around 80 minutes

Review

The DVD comes with a booklet that contains some sample routines.

This DVD is great for anyone following the WS4SB program. It contains athletes doing real weights in a real gym. In my opinion if you wanted to buy this or “Strong” I would buy this. As Super Strength contains information that you can use in you training. The DVD is great it contains both male and female athletes lifting and jumping.

The DVD also comes with a great warm up for both upper and lower body days (which I think is worth the price alone).

Defranco also explains a few things on the DVD which I found interesting. I watch the DVD when I am coming back from a break in training (sickness and injury :( )to motivate myself.

Pros

Great warm up

Males and females

Running time

Get to see what a true max effort looks like

Cons

Booklet could have been longer (maybe)?????

How has it changed the way I train?

The DVD has forever changed the way I warm up.

The Ultimate No-Bull Speed Development Manual review

By who? Kelly Baggett

http://www.higher-faster-sports.com/

What is it? A book on how to get faster

Pages 161

Review This book explains in detail how to get faster. It is detailed but follows the K.I.S.S formula. So it is simple enough to understand for the average person. It has many sample programs (12 week plans ect) within the book as well as instructions on how to write your own training program. The book also talks about the different types of speed (game speed vs linear speed) and how to improve them. Also mentions how too much aerobic work will hurt your speed.

Buy this book if you want to run faster.

Pros

Contains nearly everything (weights, running, stretching, agility ect)

Simple

How to find your own weaknesses

Sample programs

Cons

None

How has it changed the way I train? When I do speed sessions I make sure I get enough rest between sprints.

Combat Conditioning review

Combat Conditioning Book review

By who? Matt Furey

www.mattfurey.com

What is it? A bodyweight training book.

Pages 136

Review This book was the one of (if not the first) bodyweight training book. So there are much better books on the market at the moment. Eg Never Gymless by Ross Enamait. Combat Conditioning is basically a list of body weight exercise and Matt Furey promotes the idea of more is better. Similar information to the book can be found at here and here.

Pros

Cheap (compared to other Matt Furey products).

Matt Furey’s humor (found in the Q & A section)

Cons

No real program.

Better products on the market.

How has it changed the way I train? It has not.

Strong DVD review

Strong DVD review

By who? Joe Defranco

www.defrancotraining.com

What is it? The dvd takes you into the lives of some of the athletes that train at Joe Defranco’s gym.

Review

Well first off. I love Joe Defranco. I love his website Defranco Training. I also love WS4SB. Joe Defranco gives away a ton of information for free on the net. There was much hype around this DVD. Having said all that I was disappointed with the DVD. It is way too short (less then 1 hour) and comes off as an advertisment for Joe’s gym. I think if there had been less hype I would like this dvd more.

The DVD shows as how hard these athletes train and their outlook on life and some of the hard times that they have gone through.

It also has an interview with Joe and Joe’s parents. Something that is very cool is a footage of Joe training as a young skinny kid.

Buy this DVD if you have spare cash.

Who should buy this?

People who like Joe Defranco

Pros

See Joe train as a kid. (A skinny kid at that)

Cost

Cons

Length

No female athletes

How has it changed the way I train? I try to push myself harder.

Never Gymless Book Review

By who? Ross Enamait

http://www.rosstraining.com/

What is it? Never Gymless is a bodyweight training book.

Pages: 233

Review

Ross goes through how to build a training program using just your bodyweight. The book contains many different exercises for people at different stages. From a basic level to an expert level. Not only does it have a lot of different exercises. It also has how to put them into a program.

The book itself is broken down into sections for ease of use. Eg Isometrics, Lower Body Strength & Power and Conditioning Is King

The book doesn’t focus on weight training as it is a bodyweight training book. Ross however does talk about weight training at the start of the book.

Who should buy it?

Everyone who is intrested in bodyweight training.

MMA fighters

Boxers

Pros

Cost

Mail speed

The whole book :)

Cons

None

How has the book changed the way I train?

I now do one-legged squats (pistols), chin ups and push ups often as a part of my training.
